My year as the 2012 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen seems to have flown by leaving me shocked it’s already drawing to an end. Looking threw photos of this year amazes me at how much I have progressed as a young woman. I am still finding it hard to believe that in 5 days it will be 2013, leaving me with very fond memories and and some slightly sensitive lungs from all the hairspray. Serving as the 2012 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen has made me grow as a person and really appreciate the giving and supportive community I live in here in The Dalles, Oregon. As we end a year there seems to be a million thank you’s to be said to each and every person who made this year possible. I believe the biggest thank you goes to all of the sponsors of the Fort Dalles Rodeo. Without the sponsors there would be no rodeo for me to proudly represent and promote year round. So thank you to each and every one of our sponsors for all of their much appreciated support this year! Also I would like to thank my family, friends, rodeo board, sponsors, and community. 2012 wouldn’t have been the year that it was without all of you. Thank you for letting me be an ambassador for not only rodeo but also the Fort Dalles Rodeo Association and the city of The Dalles.

Yesterday was an AMAZING day and way to end my year as your 2012 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen. Thank you again to Larissa Marini and Bryan Fisher of the Vancouver Rodeo for inviting me to this special event. The Christmas Round-up for Inner City Youth made so many children, teenagers, and adults day. When we arrived to the Clark County Saddle Club at 8am the place was buzzing with volunteers getting ready for the 130 kids and their parents. The day was filled with a rodeo exhibition, stations for the kids and their parents, a visit from santa, and a nice warm meal to end the day. To see a grown adult smile like a little kid on Christmas morning all because they got to ride a horse for the first time… Such a rewarding experience! Volunteers took the time to teach everyone how to rope, dance, ride, paint a horse, make Christmas crafts and so so much more. I feel so blessed to be involved with this years Christmas Round-up. Also another thank you to Jessica Arterburn for setting me up with her horse Doc so I could take part in grand entry. There are far to many thank yous to be said for the people who made Christmas Round-up possible!

As we all know things are really staring to mellow out for us 2012 rodeo queens. Recently we have had a few events like the try-outs for our 2013 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen, the star light parade here in The Dalles, and the 6th annual Columbia Gorge Cowboy Gathering. But I do have a few more events I would like to share with you that are coming up. With the holiday season here we all do as much as we can to give back. I am very excited to share an upcoming event that I’m proud to say I will be taking part in. On Saturday December 8th I will be at the Clark County Saddle Club in Vancouver, WA helping and taking part in the 6th Christmas Round-Up for Inner City Youth. For those of you that do not know this event brings about 100 kids to the Saddle Club and gives them a day to remember. They get horse rides, wagon rides, crafts, learn to rope, see Santa  and so much much more. Christmas Round-Up will be my very last run-out as your 2012 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen and I can not say thank you enough to the Vancouver Rodeo Association for reaching out to me about this great way to give back and end my year. And with my year drawing to an end I would like for all of you to save a date to celebrate the beginning of a new young woman’s journey in representing our rodeo association and city of The Dalles. The 2013 Fort Dalles Rodeo Annual Banquet & Queen’s Coronation will be held Saturday March 9th at The Dalles Country Club. So be sure to save the date and keep watch for more info as it gets closer to March. And to the 2013 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen Miss Candace Shattuck of Roosevelt, WA, have fun because the year will fly by making you wonder where it went.

Pendleton Round-Up with 2012 Miss NPRA Emily Clark

Sadly I’m just now getting to sharing my recent year end events. Since my last post we have attended a few big rodeos here in the northwest and all of them were a first for me. Pendleton Round-Up, a world famous rodeo that brings many fans from all over the globe. You know this is true when the rodeo clown finds a fan in the crowd who came all the way from France and has her yell ‘Let’er Buck!’ in french for the crowd to hear. Our day in Pendleton kicked off with the annual parade where I rode in a wagon pulled by these 2 beautiful percherons and a three month old that followed along side its mother as she pulled us threw the streets of downtown Pendletion. As for visiting royalty girls from all over the Untied States made their way to Round-Up (Miss Rodeo America, Miss Rodeo Mississippi, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and more). I made so many memories that Saturday and I will treasure them all. My next adventure was a jam packed weekend at the NPRA finals which was held in Prineville, Oregon. For some of you that do not know its not just finals where the best cowboys and cowgirls come to take home the ‘gold’, it is also the weekend of the 2013 Miss NPRA pageant. With 2 big events in one weekend you can only imagine the hard work they put into finals. My hat is off to the hard working people that take every extra moment of their lives to help make it possible, people like Jean McPherson who organizes the visiting royalty, the Miss NPRA pageant, and is involved with the rodeo performances. Five beautiful and talented girls took part and gave it their all in the Miss NPRA pageant, and I proud to say my friend and fellow rodeo queen Miss Sara Marcus will be your 2013 Miss NPRA! With the year now officially wrapping up only a few more events are left like the 2013 Fort Dalles Queen pageant in November. Where did the year go? And why so fast?

Ellensburg Parade. Queen Kacie with Miss Reno Rodeo

Ellensburg Parade. Queen Kacie with Miss Reno Rodeo

I’m still finding it hard to believe September is already here and bringing fall with it. Everyone knows summer is full of rodeos and I have been hearing a common question ‘Summer is pretty much over does that mean your done traveling and attending events as rodeo queen?’ My answer for this question is ‘No. I will be attending events till December 31st!’.  Things have been starting to slow down, but I will still be out and about till the end of the year proudly promoting the Fort Dalles Rodeo and the city of The Dalles. As for my most recent adventures we just returned last night from Ellensburg, WA and boy was that a great rodeo and parade. Ellensburg is known for being a great rodeo and this weekend was my first time attending. I left Ellensburh with a great memory and some new friends. I would like to say a thank you to the Ellensburg Rodeo Association for being so welcoming and helpful my first time attending. My next adventure is exciting and its a pretty big one. Pendleton Round-Up!!! Once again it is another first for me and I’m getting more and more excited as I see the Pendleton Assocition posting the countdown online. Just a friendly reminder to any girls out there interested in trying out for 2013 Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen the application deadline is September 30th.

Vancouver Rodeo July 6th

This July I was able to join many other cowboys and cowgirls on the road for cowboy christmas and boy was it fun. The 4th of July week is when competitors ride for the most money in the shortest time span of the regular season. So that kinda gives you an idea how busy cowboy christmas can be for any cowboy or cowgirl. My cowboy christmas trip consisted of 8 days bouncing around the great states of Oregon and Washington. For anyone who wants to see photos of from my trip they can be found on our facebook page  under Fort Dalles Rodeo Association. To the rodeo associations of La Pine, St. Paul, Molalla, and Vancouver thank you for all your help making sure all of us visiting queens were taken care of. And an even bigger thank you to TJ and Nick Miles for making this trip with me and being the best rodeo family a girl can have! Now its time to gear up for Fort Dalles Days and the many events it brings. Hope to see you there!

Queen Kacie and Fort Dalles Rodeo President Damon Hulit after winning 1st place at the Portland Rose Parade

Well I can now cross being in the Portland Rose Festival’s Grand Floral Parade off my bucket list. I have watched the Grand Floral Parade so many times and you really do not understand how much work is put into the parade until you have been in it. The people of the Portland Rose Festival Association work so hard and I want to say a big thank you to them for all their hard work and allowing me to take part in the 100th parade! I’m also proud to say we came home from the Portland Rose Festival with a first place trophy, plaque, and ribbon in the individual rodeo or fair queen category. Thank you to the ladies at Sigman’s Flowers! My flowers were so beautiful and they went above and beyond making them. Also a big thank you to Susan at Susan’s Custom Sewing for the one of a kind shirt she made for the parade. We have some outstanding and supportive businesses here in The Dalles, OR! One last BIG thank you to my traveling partner TJ Miles and her husband Nick Miles for getting up at 1 am with me, making sure my tack/horse were clean, and hand painting music notes on my horses hooves. I have a very supportive group of people this year and I can not thank everyone enough.

Saturday's TETWP at Spray Rodeo

Well the month of May is just about over and it seems to have flown by so fast with Arlington Rodeo kicking the month off. I have just wrapped up one busy Memorial Day weekend in Spray, OR and Wasco, OR. Two parades and two rodeo performances made this weekend a fun one. Big thanks to everyone who make the Spray Rodeo and Wasco Memorial Day parade possible! Now the month of June is upon us and that means rose parade and more rodeos. It’s going to be one busy summer and I can not wait. For now its good to be home and prepare for my next adventure which will be the White Salmon Spring Festival. The parade is on Saturday June 2nd and starts at 11am in White Salmon, WA. I would like to end with a thank you on this Memorial Day to all the men and women who have served in the armed forces to protect our country. We can not thank you enough.
